Fully Qualified Preschool Teacher

About Us:

The Scandinavian School’s Preschool Program is the only full time, Scandinavian language immersion preschool program in the United States. We offer a play-based preschool program with a focus on social-emotional development and relationship building through a Reggio Emilia inspired, child-centered curriculum. Job Duties:

● Develop and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.

● Set educational and developmental goals for the children in your care, both as a group and individually.

● Prepare the environment (indoor and outdoor) thoughtfully every day so that it supports those objectives.

● Provide developmentally appropriate, diverse, and inspiring materials and experiences which address the social, physical, emotional, and intellectual needs of each student, utilizing both daily activities and long-term projects.

● Enrich the educational program by planning and leading local field trips when appropriate.

● Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the changing interests and needs of the children, as individuals and as a group.

● Develop activities which promote strong home/school relations, including but not limited to Family Fun Days, Famly app posts at least twice per week, and individual plans as needed.

● Assess children’s growth and development individually and share with parents through, at a minimum, parent-teacher conferences and documentation in individual portfolios.

● Create a consistent daily and weekly routine and manage transitions including group time, play, breaks, rest, and meals.

● Support assistant teachers, aides, substitute teachers and new staff members in understanding their responsibilities.

● Provide appropriate supervision and care for children at all times, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of each child.

● Provide basic needs for children, including access to water, food, diapers/toileting and dressing, adhering to health/safety and sanitation regulations.

● Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, following all licensing regulations.

● Strive for constant growth as a teacher, participating in observations and feedback, staff initiatives, and other professional development opportunities dealing with curriculum and current early childhood issues.

● Collaborate and communicate effectively and proactively with others in the teaching team, staff at the preschool, and throughout the organization.

Skills and Qualifications:

● Required before employment:

US working permit (we are unable to provide this for you) 

○ LiveScan and criminal record clearance through DOJ Child Abuse Index

○ Proof of MMR and DTP immunizations and absence of tuberculosis (TB)

● Must be trained or commit to being trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED for adult, infant, and child.

● Bilingual and bi-literate in both a Scandinavian language and English with native or near-native proficiency

● Minimum of 12 units in Early Childhood Education and Child Development required

● At least six months of work experience in a licensed child care center or comparable group child care program.

● Knowledge of child development, developmentally appropriate practices, and project-based learning.

● BA or BS Degree in education, early childhood education, child development, or relevant field strongly preferred. High school diploma or GED required.

● Excellent communication, flexibility, organization, and creative problem-solving skills

● Must work well with a variety of people from various backgrounds and cultures.

● Excellent record of attendance and punctuality

● Ability to move from place to place, work outdoors, and bend, lift, and carry up to 35 pounds short distances.

Preschool Aid

● Prepare and clean for snacks and mealtimes

● Clean toys and educational materials

● Assist teachers during transitions to get children ready for meals, activities, etc.

● Organize classroom and outdoor materials

● Assist the teachers in implementing positive guidance with each child

● Maintain a clean, safe, and organized classroom, following all licensing regulations.

● Strive for constant growth as a teacher, participating in observations and feedback, staff initiatives, and other professional development opportunities dealing with curriculum and current early childhood issues.

● Ability to move from place to place, work outdoors, and bend, lift, and carry up to 35 pounds short distances.

Part-time Teachers in Danish and Norwegian for Adult Language Programs

We are right now looking for passionate and dedicated teachers for our online classes in Danish and Norwegian, ready to take on one evening class starting mid-August. The courses run for eight weeks sessions, four times a year, starting in August, October, January and March. Our teachers have natives or close to native competence in their language. This evening job is suitable as an extra job, and many of our teachers are working in education or have other language related day jobs. A formal teacher training is not necessary, but previous teaching experience is welcome.

Every week, the SSCC is offering over 20 online and in-person language classes for adults learners. We are teaching Norwegian, Finnish, Swedish and Danish, and the levels are varying from beginners to advanced learners. Part-time teacher assistants for Swedish youth programs

Menlo Park & San Francisco

We are looking for teacher assistants for school year 2024-25 for our Swedish language programs for children ages 5-7 and 8-12 in Menlo Park & San Francisco. The groups meet once a week, 1h 45min at a time. Assistant will help the students as they work with their language materials, plan and execute activities that build confidence in using the language and support the lead teacher.

Previous experience working with children preferred, but not necessary. Fluency in Swedish is a must for this position. We consider also applications from high school or college students for this role.
